When Digable Planets launched “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” in 1993, the tune blew up in recognition and the group was hailed as a form of new, different hip-hop.

A 12 months later, Digable Planets launched their second and closing album, known as Blowout Comb, and World Cafe correspondent John Morrison says it went in a very new route.

“I do not know if Blowout Comb is deliberately pushing again in opposition to that, but it surely undoubtedly has a rougher sort of edge to it,” he says.

On this installment of The Tradition Nook, Morrison talks about Digable Planets’ Blowout Comb because the album turns 30 years previous.
